Sotogrande… a safe Oasis for resident family members living in cities!

Those of us living in Sotogrande year-round can now see on the international TV news stations how COVID 19 has really begun to disrupt normal life in some of the European cities where corona hot spots seem to have established itself.

We residents have not suffered in the manner that those who live in densely populated areas. I am particularly thinking of those who live in apartments with little opportunity to get out and enjoy some fresh air without having to get close fellow citizens. My two daughters Christina and Alexandra are points in case.

Both had suffered a very strict lockdown in London and having the chance to get out of London and visit me and Stephanie in Sotogrande was a real relief for both of them. Like me I have met many other residents who enjoyed having their children stay over the summer, and like me benefitted from a longer than normal Sotogrande stay, which not only offered time out from confinement, but also permitted them to continue working remotely for at  least some of the time. I even came across a young man at the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, who is at university in the USA who has preferred the option to remain in Sotogrande and attend online classes.

We all have stories about furloughed friends or family members. In my case Christina (self-employed) Alex (furloughed) and Alex’s boyfriend Chris (working from home) all loved being in Sotogrande for the summer rather than London, albeit they had to go back into confinement when they returned. Funnily enough, simply the option to work in Sotogrande which offers incredible internet connection (better than the UK in most case) made life easier than working from home in London.

There was of course the temptation to ignore work, and just get on with being on holiday, but without much difficulty both work and pleasure could be entertained. So, visiting beach clubs such as Trocadero or simply going for a walk around the wonderful Sotogrande urbanization was a real relief both physically but mostly mentally. If you wanted to be more energetic, going on long cycle rides around the San Martin, Tesorillo and San Enrique areas, or simply going to an open gym (providing all the COVID safety measures) were great options for the sportier types in my family. Chris, my daughter’s boyfriend, who is a motorsport enthusiast was very happy to meet my friend Eddie Jordan on a cycle ride we all went on one Sunday morning.

I have a feeling the Sotogrande urbanization will continue to offer relief breaks to many city dwellers over the next few years whilst COVID 19 is tamed. And those with possibilities will bring their friends!

Thank you for reading, I will be happy to assist you finding your dreamed home in Sotogrande, an exclusive and safe oasis in Costa del Sol.
