Modern Outdoor Spaces Sotogrande Villas
Over the years I have noticed that the outdoor spaces in Sotogrande villas and apartments have changed. They seem to be more sophisticated than years ago when I started in the real estate business.
So how were outdoor spaces and terraces in the past?
Villa terraces used to be much smaller than today, and only furnished with a dining table a few chairs, and maybe a few lounge chairs. Furniture seemed to serve more as a filler than anything else. Little thought was given to design in these outdoor spaces, which are used most days in the summer months.
A terrace today is very different, and I can particularly think of a Sotogrande covered terrace which is designed with a sloping roof, open on both sides, enjoying magnificent views both ways, featuring a wonderfully landscaped lily pond on one side, and a flat garden with a perfect manicured lawn on the other, all surrounded by harmonizing tall plants that guarantee the desired privacy. Under the roof the space is dressed with a large open fireplace and generous comfortable armchairs and sofas. Pure luxury!
The same applies to apartments with large terraces. Today developers who build apartments try to maximize outside space. Terraces are no longer as they used to be in the 80s. Compared to older residential complexes such as the Sotogrande Beach Apartments or the Cortijos de Valderrama, which offer mostly small terraces, newer residential complexes in Sotogrande such as Valgrande, El Polo or Senda Chica, have very large terrace areas. They are more generous, reflecting the need for ample outdoor space to enjoy alfresco breakfast, lunch or dinners or just sunbathing.
Additionally, Sotogrande luxury apartments are used year long and not just during the summer months.
The need for fresh air and a feeling of space.
Sotogrande offers the climate to use outside areas of the house all year round, and anyone who works in a closed office all day will feel the urge to spend more time outside. Architects and landscape gardeners have addressed this need and are increasingly designing being thoughtful of surroundings and carefully landscaping gardens. Water features or artificially created waterfalls, open modern fireplaces become part of the external living area.
I also notice that many prefer to have their swimming pools besides the main terrace, not only to overlook and supervise children, but also to relax by or in the pool with a glass of champagne. Some pools are designed so that sun loungers stand in the water; some are even built into the pool. That replaces the wobbly inflatable islands or oversized inflatable swans!! Haha!
These outdoor living rooms are as stylish as the interiors of these amazing homes that accompany them.
Thank you for your time and enjoy being at home!
