Happy Christmas 2020 in Sotogrande!

If normality was previously considered boring, this year it is exactly the other way round: We long for nature instead of technology, and for long entertaining evenings with friends and family…

Especially in this Christmas season, we are looking forward to a simply beautiful Christmas, and personal words and Gifts with a purpose. At the end of the year, many of us would like an extra portion of normality as a reminder of more carefree times.

? What will Christmas be like in Sotogrande? ?

Although for the Spaniards the actual festive day does not take place until January 6th, and in the past they never had a  Santa Claus or the Christmas tree tradition, the influence and demand from foreign residents for Christmas decorations is growing from year to year. In the tourist areas the shops have long since adapted and offer Christmas decorations in all varieties and Christmas trees.

The annual Christmas lights in the streets of the cities are always particularly impressive. In Sotogrande, the festive Christmas lights are limited to the surrounding villages and the Sotogrande Marina.

In the past few years, a large Christmas tree was inaugurated in the Marina on December 6th in collaboration between the SIS (Sotogrande International School) with their school choirs, and Santa Claus and his assistants. There was a Christmas market, mulled wine and many other goodies we are used to in Northern European countries, thanks to the influence of foreign Sotogrande residents.

Now when thinking about gifts for Christmas, I spontaneously think of the shops in the Sotogrande Marina, where you can buy wonderful table decorations, such as cloth napkins, dishes, place mats, etc. For the Christmas tree decorations, I think of the Florium flower shop or Meridiana Decoración in Pueblo Nuevo de Guadiaro.

? In times of the Corona, self-made items naturally also take on a new meaning.?

For Charles and me it will be the first Christmas in Sotogrande, since we have been living in Spain. We’re already really looking forward not only to the Christmas days itself, but also to the preparations. ?

Warmest wishes from Noll Sotogrande!

Take care, Stephanie.
