Our thoughts go out to people who have been affected by this virus and we appreciate the healthcare workers and governments around the world who are working to contain coronavirus.
HOME RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH SUSPECTED OR PRESENTING MILD SYMPTOMS BY THE CORONAVIRUS
Where should the patient be located?
• Whenever possible, it is recommended to install the patient in a room exclusively for him, with a bathroom for individual use. If this is not possible, the patient should be placed in a room to
guarantee a minimum distance of two meters from others.
• The room should have good ventilation with a window, avoiding possible drafts towards the rest of the house.
• The patient will remain with the door closed at all times to avoid contact with the rest of rooms.
• It will have a dustbin with automatic lid and bag inside with hermetic closure to accommodate any patient waste.
Communication with other family members and healthcare personnel
• The home must have a telephone for direct communication with the health personnel designated for the monitoring of the patient’s evolution.
• In order to minimize patient contact with other family members, you must have an intercom, such as the one that it is used with babies. You can also use a mobile.
Circulation of the patient in the domestic environment
• As far as possible, attempts will be made to limit the patient’s circulation to minimize contact with the rest of the family or cohabiting.
• If the situation requires it, the patient will circulate around the home environment making correct use of the mask. Hand hygiene will always be kept in mind.
• Do not share food, drinks, utensils or other personal objects (telephones, pens, computers, Tv controls..)
• Any home visit that is not essential must be restricted.
Hand washing and personal hygiene
Hand washing is one of the main measures to avoid contagion by coronavirus. It must be carried out:
• Before and after each contact with the patient.
• Before the patient leaves his room.
• After coughing or sneezing.
• After handling tissues.
• Before eating.
• After cleaning any tool or surface.
The patient can wash regularly, minimizing contact with objects if the bathroom is not exclusive and discarding the clothes you use or use in an exclusive bucket for it.
The cleaning utensils will be for individual use. And remember to lower the cover before pulling the chain.
Waste management and cleaning
• The towel will have a single use and will be discarded in a specific bucket for subsequent washing.
• After each use of the bathroom, cleaning will be carried out with household bleach.
• Patient’s clothing (including bedding) will be moved in an airtight sealed bag for machine washing at a temperature of 60-90ºC with soap or detergent commonly used.
• Frequently touched surfaces should be washed with a bleach solution in a ratio of 1:50 and freshly prepared.
