Stephanie Noll visits BACG Distribution Point in La Línea Kiosk.
Surviving: Another reality for our neighbours. By Stephanie Noll, 21st April 2021.
Today I went to La Linea de la Concepción, one of the places, where Banco de Alimentos delivers food. They deliver to 15 different places, one of which is a small kiosk in La Linea. Three Volunteer Ladies are handling the food distribution to each of the persons in need. In the back of the counter are bags of different food prepared for each of the persons who are coming today to collect their monthly bag.
It seems well organized and at 4pm sharp people -who have previously qualified to be receiving food,- are lining up to wait their turn. Today I brought fresh meat, which is not often on their menu, and Valle Gonzalez immediately started to allocate one meat-bag in each of the prepared bags.
Most of them are living of € 400/month from the government.
There is Ana, young woman, with two children of 12 and 19 years old, her husband has work, earning 1,200€/ month. This is not enough to pay for rent, utilities, insurances, medicine, clothes, … , they are depending on help. So is Sonia and Maria, all in similar situations. All people who are patiently waiting their turn are almost eager to tell their story.
Banco de Alimentos is certainly an organization which works and is helping those people to survive. I so much hope we can help more! We need your donation.
