My data, my data… where is my data?
One of the most frustrating things I find in the Real Estate industry here in Spain is easy and free access to good data. What has sold, when it was sold and for how much, should be information readily available to all and easily accessible. Furthermore, additional information such as population, crime rate, social class and more can also obtained by simple search on the internet. In some countries technology has made this process very simple and transparent. For example, in the UK by simply entering a post code into a search engine you will have full visibility.

In a very few minutes much information is available including:
- Dates of previous sales.
- Prices of previous sales.
- Schools.
- Broadband quality
- Sports facilities
- Health
- And much more.
I have yet to find out where and how I can obtain similar information in Spain and specifically Sotogrande.
So, what do I do? Well one very good source of information is the Spanish Property Insight Portal. I have used this site regularly to learn about trends and opinions. The site describes itself as: Spanish Property Insight helps you understand the market and how to buy, own, or sell property in Spain with confidence. It is the only independent source of information on the Spanish housing market, written without any sales bias, and the only impartial guide to buying, getting the most out of, and selling property in Spain. It is run by Mark Stücklin, author of the Spanish Property Doctor column in The Sunday Times (2005-2008), and the book ‘Need to Know: Buying Property in Spain’ published by Collins.
The information seems endless with articles/blogs on just about any subject related to property and living in Spain. Very useful information such as purchasing guides, engaging a lawyer, the renal market, the golden visa, buying off plan, home insurance, a mortgage guide, building and renovating, property transaction costs, taxation, exchange rates, demand trends, and much more.
Until the collection of data is improved sadly we will not have easily available information to use for analysis and good quantitative understanding of real estate in Sotogrande.
