Over a number of years, I have been spending my summers in Sotogrande. Sotogrande has never been a noisy place but in order to keep it in top condition, for instance, gardeners and maintenance staff used to have noisy equipment, luckily, they have started to change it into electric machinery, removing a big part of the noise they created.
The same used to happen when summer residents came and started to move around with their mopeds and motorbikes, me being one of them for several years. But fortunately, with the growth of electric motorbikes and vehicle-sharing platforms, it was just about time for them to come to Sotogrande to offer an even quieter experience.

Acciona, being the biggest moto sharing operator worldwide has delivered to Sotogrande some of their bikes for rent for their clients to use during the summer, offering a quiet and efficient way of transport around Sotogrande. To be able to use the moto sharing service, you will need to download the ACCIONA app on your smartphone and register with your details and driver’s license, then, just book a motorbike for rent through the app and you are ready to go. The app will guide you through the steps to get the rental bike started and get going. Acciona has prepared different areas for you to pick or park the rental bike, Trocadero, Real Club Marítimo de Sotogrande, Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande, Santa María Polo Club and Playa de Torreguadiaro are the areas enabled by Acciona.

In a similar fashion, Telecoche, through the Company Free2Moove, has started offering Citroën AMIs for rent in Sotogrande, which can be booked per day, week, or for the whole month, prices per day are 30€ in July and 50€ in August. These Citröen AMIs are built of recycled plastic entirely and have an autonomy of 75kms. The electric car for rent can be charged with a house plug and doesn’t need the installation of a special charger.

We have also seen a rise in the installation of chargers for electric vehicles in Sotogrande, mainly located at the port and in the Centro Comercial Marisol allowing owners of electric vehicles to charge them while they are out shopping or enjoying a meal at restaurants close by.

The security team of Sotogrande, PROSEGUR, has also started to change their fleet into electric vehicles including electric motorbikes for the beach area, all with the aim to be as silent and as environmentally friendly as possible.
This shows the path Sotogrande is following towards electrification, which will for sure help residents and vacationers enjoy an even more peaceful Sotogrande.
Personal thoughts about Sotogrande going electric and green.
In my opinion, and based on my own experience as a previously summer resident and a current full-time resident, all these changes are making Sotogrande evolve and adapt the new technologies to make life here even more pleasant. As long as everything is done correctly, people act sensibly and don’t park their vehicles anywhere, I believe Sotogrande is on the correct path to continue growing and getting even better. It should not take long for these services to be available at the SO/ Sotogrande or at La Reserva.
