Never a better time to do ‘Spring-Clean’ in your Sotogrande home!

Now we are stuck at home in Sotogrande self-isolating, we thought it a good idea to do some spring cleaning. Stephanie and I have made a list of things to do which we share in this blog.

✨ Here are some ideas..

Within the Sotogrande property: Cobwebs, windows and windowsills, internal window tracks, dusting blinds, washing and wiping down walls, removing dust and dirt from skirtings, mopping and vacuuming of floors, steam cleaning of rugs.

Kitchen: Oven and stove top, wiping down counters with antibacterial solutions, sinks and basins, pantry and cupboards, exhaust fan, hanging kitchen lamps and its bulbs..

Bathrooms & Toilets: Exhaust Fans, shower recesses, shower screens, sinks and troughs, splash backs and mirrors grout in shower recess

Bedroom suggestions: Flip your mattress, change your winter bedding to spring, change your clothes from warm to cool and pack away your seasonal clothes.. donate unwanted clothes.

It seems a very big task but as they say.. there is only one way to eat an elephant. One bite at a time. So this is what we are doing at our home in Sotogrande!

? Also, they will become an almost enjoyable exercise with the appropriate music.. ?

De-clutter first – Make sure we de-cluttered at the beginning. This will clear the space and make it easier for us to actually see what needs sweeping, dusting or washing. (Salsa music is always inspiring for spring cleaning)

Make a cleaning kit – We made sure we had the tools and cleaning products. Basic checklist: an all-purpose cleaner, disinfecting wipes, rubber gloves, glass cleaner for showers and windows, carpet spot cleaner, microfiber cloths, a sponge, and a small duster. Then we put everything in a bucket and to carry from room to room. Fortunately, we had all these at home.

Go room by room – We believe cleaning one room at a time will make it easier. We began with the bedroom, then the next morning take on the living room and kitchen. We are spacing things out ….we have time. It does not look the lockdown will finish any time soon. (Rumba seems to be ideal for some more sensitive cleaning jobs)

Clean those forgotten spaces – There are many places around your Sotogrande property that tend to be overlooked during normal cleaning. For example, the tracks of the windows, or under the sofa cushions. When you’re dusting shelves remove all items you can and clean the actual surface of the shelf. We wiped our TV remote controls with antibacterial solution. This is particularly important today with corona virus. (Try Bachata music to keep you in the rhythm)

The fridge and pantry – There are many condiments that need to be thrown away. We cleared out the entire fridge and larder to check expiration dates. Before putting everything back in we wiped the bottoms and lids of the containers. You could also, take the shelves completely out and wash them down with soap and water.

Organise Wardrobes – We cleared out old clothes we no longer use. We will donate these to charity when we can get out again and give the clothes a longer life. (Merengue works! ?)

.. Our next task will be our terrace! ?

Stay safe & stay at home! Charlie Gubbins.
