Could Sotogrande benefit from remote working?

Being forced to work from home, has allowed many sectors to evaluate the reality of home office set ups on a permanent basis.

With governments around the world recommending that, as far as possible, companies set up teleworking in order to obey social distancing and self-isolating needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an enforced global rehearsal has materialised to this much thought of principle.

The question is can employees work remotely and remain effective and productive? Can the many technology led tools available replace face to face interactions of an office? Remote working is not entirely new. In the past, recessions (need to save) and lack of talent (quality of life) have led to home office operations. Today it is about business continuity.

Will remote working be the new normal in Sotogrande?

Certain sectors such as digital marketing, finance, administration, and consulting lend themselves more to this way of operating. But will it become the future normal? Could Sotogrande become a place of primary residences? With property owners living full time with the principal earners commuting from time to time to their main office in Madrid or London. At Noll Sotogrande we have already sold property to clients who are living in this manner and are confident it will grow.

Beyond the present corona virus extraordinary situation, I firmly believe this remote working will become much more common in Sotogrande. For many it may not be possible to be away from a main office permanently, but there are many good reasons such as environmental benefits, employee reconciliation of work and personal life balance, as well as economic savings for both companies and workers that make this option very attractive.

Remote working is already a trend in many countries, and it is an accelerating trend. The main challenge has been good strong and reliable internet connection, which of course we now have in Sotogrande. Additionally, great infrastructure (roads, airports and railway), excellent schools, good health providers, and the small matter of 300 days of sunshine should be enough to attract many.

  2. Do not attend to personal issues in your work schedule. This sometimes requires educating your loved ones.
  3. Separate work and rest spaces. Have a door to close. It is better not to use the computer on the sofa or in bed, only on a desk or worktable.
  4. Have everything you need for your job on hand. It will avoid distractions and also waste of time.
