Adapting to the coronavirus and the New Normal in Sotogrande
If I am not extremely wrong, every business will be in a battle to survive what we are experiencing with the coronavirus. Some have already begun to consider their new strategies, even if only with “assumptions” of what reality might be.
Clearly those that are relevant to the consumer will be the one that will survive and grow in a world that will continue to have major disruptions.
Once we have passed the first quarantine phase, and the ALARM state has passed, we will have to focus on the implications of having been absent. Governments have acted, some more than others, promising assistance to those who have suffered. The truth is that if we do not do what is necessary, we will not have a foundation on which to recover.
With the assumption that we can soon begin to normalize things, what would be ideal for Sotogrande as an urbanization? Could we finally organize ourselves and create an association of entrepreneurs and work as a team for the good of urbanization?
The fact is that our property market in Sotogrande will be strongly affected. See article (in Spanish) in Expansion on 03/26/2020. Some of the conclusions are truly depressing if you live from this industry.
Property market: drops in percentage point sales between 25% to almost 50% in some cases. Hopefully the reality is not so negative, but we should be prepared.
We will all have to address our proposition to long-term clients and each company will undoubtedly have its individual proposition. But who will direct Sotogrande as a place, as an urbanization, as an entity, as a destination? What will be the Sotogrande proposition? Will we be more of the same, or will we have the energy and the will to change?
Looking for something positive to conclude, could this coronavirus tragedy be the catalyst that unites Sotogrande as a holiday destination? Or indeed, will we no longer be a holiday destination, but a place of primary residence?
This situation reminds me of the book The Cow by Dr Camilo Cruz. It tries to show the devastating effects that conformity can have on our lives, and the great changes that occur when we finally decide to get rid of all our excuses.
