Stephanie Noll: What inspires Heidi Gubbins?

Heidi Gubbins: I find a lot of my inspiration in nature. Nature has a such a perfect way of combining colors, textures and elements. Likewise, I really enjoy watching “making-of” haute-couture fashion clips and catwalks… I find a lot of love for detail in their works that incites in me ideas for a piece or composition for my interiors. I follow a lot of interior designers and artists too. I admire how designers create and put together spaces. I also like looking at how time affects spaces and pieces… like old doors,  old ruins… and to imagine a new way of reinterpreting it in a modern-contemporary interior.  So much inspires me… would need a book to write it all in there and still it wouldn’t be enough… I find inspiration in something new and unexpected every day.

I have a special passion for bespoke items and love authenticity.

SN: How do you see the business on the Costa del Sol?

HG: We are currently enjoying a boom in the real estate industry, especially in modern architecture. I think it’s a good time to also observe and create interiors that are singular and not a “copy-paste” version of something already seen. I also believe we should respect the traditional architecture, we can always update the interiors by using some contrast in a contemporary way.

SN: What drives you?

HG: I like a challenge! I like making intricate and complicated designs look easy and eye-catching. I also like creating a buzz in my interiors by finding pieces that stand out and create contrast.

This is what I call understated elegance. Sometimes less is more, sometimes more is elegance, sometimes nothing is a breath of fresh air and exactly what is needed in order to create an atmosphere that is in tune with the space.

SN: What do you love about design?

HG: What I love about design is to tap into our creativity, to really exercise the muscle of imagination and conversion..  There are endless possibilities that can be brought to life in a tangible way.. finding the right one for my clients is always very satisfying and to make it a unique experience for them.

With my team we take special care in going through layouts so that we ourselves are exhausting each possibility until we are happy with it.

I’m a believer that at the end of the day, the people living in a property must feel at ease and in harmony with their home. 

I love creating spaces that are transcendent.. ■
