03 – Purchase Process AFTER you buy in Spain
03: Is there anything to consider AFTER I BUY IN SOTOGRANDE
- Land Registry
- Spanish Will
1. Land registry
Once you have the keys to your new property it is critical that you ensure the property is registered as yours. It is necessary to register the new ownership by inscribing the deed of conveyance, ‘escritura pública’, at the Land Register Office. Without the notaries signature on the “escritura” you cannot “elevate” the contract and have it registered formally.
2. Spanish Will
For those who purchase property in Spain it is strongly advisable to execute a Spanish Will confined to their Spanish Assets. This will avoid blockage to their heirs upon their death. Your lawyer can advise on this very important point.
