Contemporary trends come to Sotogrande in 2017
I recently read a description of the modern villa in a magazine. It used words like "boutique comfort, picture-perfect space, inspiring contemporary concept, immaculate masterpiece of modernity by the sea, exotic vision, exquisite sophistication, panoramic splendour, chic minimalism, elegant grandeur, avant-garde style..." and many others. But what does this really mean when it refers to architectural design?

In past months, my blog has focused on the grown-up pleasures offered by sunny Sotogrande; the grand Golf tournaments, tantalising Tapas bars, beautiful beaches and buzzing social scene. However, as the children shoulder their satchels and sharpen the pencils on their return to school after the half-term holiday, it seems only right that our focus turn to the younger generation.

Easy Living in the Costa de Sol
When American visionary Joseph McMicking first laid down the plans for the beautiful 4,400 acre estate of Sotogrande in 1962, I do not think even he could envisage what a spectacular success story it would become. Fitting that he should now have an important road; the Avenida Paniagua, renamed in his memory.
As the memorial name stone was laid, it got me to thinking - what is the key to SotograndeĂ˘â‚¬â„˘s phenomenal appeal.
It is not just the stunning way the luxurious urbanisation sits within beautifulĂ‚Â South Andalusian countryside that brings people here in their droves. It is not just the top quality golf courses, the exciting tournaments battled on the polo fields, the bars and boats of the port or the areaĂ˘â‚¬â„˘s enticing beaches.
It is more than that.
